About Hinge Productions
Hinge Productions makes compelling stories that reflect Aotearoa.
We make stories that uplift people, aspirations, and communities. We do that with a mix of carefully thought-through narrative and crafted visuals.
What we do as moving image artists is enabled by shaking hands—a handshake in good faith with those we work with at the beginning and, as importantly, at the end of a project. We prioritise relationships to get the best results out of our work as creatives.
We do not fluke the beautiful aesthetic; we craft it.

Capturing Aotearoa’s Stories
Documenting Diversity
and Innovation
As documentary makers, we have filmed extensively in South Auckland, across the South Southland and pretty much everywhere else in between. Bringing light to stories of struggle, beauty, difference, aspiration in their many narrative forms.
Hinge has also filmed some of the country’s leading businesses. Profiling the why and what, that is changing how business is done in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Hinge is currently working with Auckland City Council to create content in some of the eclectic and vibrant communities of Manukau City.
Leadership and Vision
At the helm of Hinge Productions is Rupert, a seasoned filmmaker whose passion for storytelling drives the heart of our projects. He brings decades of experience in documentary filmmaking, crafting narratives that engage and inspire. His leadership not only shapes the creative direction of our projects but also fosters a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.
Our Co-collabarators
Hinge Productions thrives on collaboration, boasting a vast network of freelance camera people, sound technicians, editors, and directors. At the core of our collaborative efforts are key figures like Ripeka Te Ara-Rīpeka Rangihuna and Aroha Treacher, whose distinct skills and insights are integral to every project.
Ripeka Te Ara-Rīpeka Rangihuna, a māmā and a proud child raised deeply within te ao Māori, brings a rich background in Māori culture and language to our productions. Holding a BA Honours in Māori Studies and a Toi Reo Māori translator’s license, Ripeka’s expertise ensures authentic representation and depth in storytelling, resonating with a wide audience while honoring her heritage.
Aroha Treacher is a director whose approach is to find the heart of every story she encounters. Her dedication to building authentic narratives through visual storytelling allows our projects to connect emotionally with viewers, offering fresh perspectives and profound insights.
As a production collective, we and our team of collaborators move fluidly across diverse spaces, continually learning from each other. Our eclectic and growing body of work is a testament to the vibrant and innovative spirit that drives Hinge Productions.
